Was fairly disappointed in the vibe/service here. We called ahead to see if children were welcome and they said of course, but surely treated us differently. We picked a table... read more away from the crowd and the server just walked by and left menus on the table without saying a single word. We stopped him and asked if that table was fine and he said yes. We get settled and a few minutes later another employee comes by and asks us to move for an event they have. Um, ok- the other guy couldn't have said something? First guy comes back to our new table and just stares at us (awkward....) so we proceed to order the sampler and ask a few questions on which is better where he proceeds to point us to the page with descriptions- cool, helpful. In the meantime, he was standing behind the bar chatting with folks like he knew them their entire lives. We quickly drank our samples, ordered a to go bottle and got out of there so fast. Don't recommend this place for tourists or families, they clearly cater to the locals only. Get a bottle to go (it was good) and save yourself the awkwardness.
1/01/1970Great place with real atmosphere and the Meads are a lot of fun. Had to buy the horn to drink from. A few of the meads on tap with a... read more little fizz was a great idea - wish more meaderies did this! You have to go out for food but they are right next door and pretty quick. Viking decor and some epic drinking horns if ya wanna drop some cash. All of the Meads are sweet. I like a drier style too and they don't have. Only slight imperfection. Grab some pizza next door and grab a horn. SKOL!

Everyone is always friendly and love to see what seasonal or special concoctions they have.
They had a perfect gift basket which I picked up that contained 2 bottles, 2 horn cups, and 2 tokens to be redeemed at a later time for 1 dollar pours.

I love mead and it is not something that is easy to find. The meads that we sampled at Drinking Horn were all good, and we took some with us.... read more Nice staff. We had a good time!
1/01/1970Where was this place when I was a college student? I recently returned to Flagstaff for a college reunion and decided to wander downtown for a few drinks and found... read more Drinking Horn Meadery on Route 66 near San Francisco. I always enjoy a good mead, so I wandered in for a beverage. There is only street parking near the place, so be prepared to walk a bit.
The interior of the meadery looks like an old Viking hall with wood tables and décor that invokes a post-plundering Smörgåsbord. The theme was continued by the presence of some costumed individuals from the Oktoberfest party. I took a seat at the bar and looked over the large menu. Their mead is based on using local honey flavored with many different ingredients. On my trip, they were also partnering with Proper Meats next door for food orders.
I chose a wonderful prickly pear mead which was a good use of the unique fruit. The mead is strong with a little natural sparkle. Flavoring can help those not used to the unique taste of naturally brewed mead. Many people choose the flights or samplers, or the brave ones can drink from the horn! This is a great option for Flagstaff and is pretty popular cementing its popularity.
If you are looking for something fun on your weekend trip to Flagstaff or when heading to the Grand Canyon, Drinking Horn Meadery is one of those fun and unique local watering holes that will make your adventure complete.
